I only know what I'm about to share with you because it's in Gods word, and it caused ME to lose weight. Trust me, what I'm about to share with you COULD change your life if you're ready to actually MAKE a change. But this will require you surrendering your current thoughts about the possibility for change based upon your experiences in that department, thus far.
CAUTION: reading the following will also make you accountable. Once you have this knowledge, you are going to find yourself feeling like you need to activate it because by NOT doing this; you're going to find that you're feeling like you're 'sinning' somehow. Don't take my word for it; read these scriptures and study Gods word for yourself!
2 Peter 1:3 tells us that God has given us EVERYTHING we need to live a GODLY life...even in weight loss. But! This doesn't come from a diet. It doesn't come from reading your bible once a week, or by phoning in your Christianity. No. It comes TO us BY our relationship WITH HIM through KNOWING Him! (Not JUST knowledge OF Him!)
Our relationship WITH God is where we learn to be Godly and share HIS divine nature to KEEP us from sin, so that we MAY live FOR Him. (Not FOR ourselves.) We have HIS power within us. And through our relationship we learn of HIS promises TO us. These promises help us to rise ABOVE the world and to escape the corruption caused by HUMAN DESIRES...even in weight loss!
In order to ACTIVATE Gods promises & strength in YOUR life, supplement your faith with MORAL EXCELLENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SELF-CONTROL, PATIENT ENDURANCE, GODLINESS, BROTHERLY AFFECTION AND LOVE FOR EVERYONE...even in weight loss. (2 Peter 1:5-7). God is trying to tell us that JUST BEING SKINNY shouldn't be our GOAL in this life.
No! IF "who we are becoming" is our goal, weight loss WILL be a natural byproduct. This is done by Seeking God and it's going to require you to seek HIM, NOT THE GYM! All of the actions listed above IN CAPS MUST be practiced in order to TRULY develop growth in your Christian Character. None of this will be automatic; all of it WILL require hard work! God empowers us to do and to develop ALL of these characteristics AND he has given us THE RESPONSIBILITY to learn and grow...even in our weight loss journey.
It is NO accident that He has empowered us and that HE EXPECTS us to develop our self-control and patient endurance AFTER we begin to develop our relationship with him, understand His promises for us, and begin to walk in our faith as we strengthen our moral excellence. He needs to develop you from THE GROUND UP as a new person so that you will be strong at your core so to avoid the 'little quits' on your meal plan, that you are strong against temptation and even overcome self-sabotage.
As you develop your moral excellence in all areas, you will begin to apply it to the stories you tell yourself about food, you abilities and your weaknesses. And FROM THAT PLACE within you will be self control. Once you begin to SEEK Him and not the Gym for weight loss, you will find your knowledge of Him taking shape as He empowers your against your physical temptations.
You can't phone in your relationship with God and expect to grow in your morality, patience and self control...even in weight loss! You just can't. You will find yourself perpetually seeking this world and constantly chasing a number on the scale rather than seeking God!
You see, God wants to develop YOUR CHARACTER as a Christian and He wants to mature you as an entire person so that you begin to resemble Christ! His goal is not to make you happy; His desire is to make you Christ-like!
2 Peter 1:3 says that God has CHOSEN YOU for this knowledge and development. You have access to all of His promises but IT WILL REQUIRE change, obedience, and fervent seeking. As we learn and understand that our obedience to Christ, who strengthens us by His Holy Spirit, we THEN develop patient endurance & self-control in our thoughts and emotions about weight loss and the work & duration of time it will take.
Once we seek Him, and create a relationship with Him, it is THEN that we are finally able to release our food stories and finally set ourselves free from the emotional baggage of releasing certain foods so to step into weight loss. I encourage you today to seek GOD. Get to know HIM. Seek HIS strength.
Let HIM develop you into who HE intended for you to become. And in the process of becoming THAT person, you'll find that you're becoming the person you'd always hoped you be. "Even in weight loss!"
